WRAP® Wellness Recovery Action Plan™

The Wellness Recovery Action Plan™ (WRAP) was developed by a group of people who experience mental health challenges. These people learned that they can identify what makes them well and then use their own wellness tools to relieve difficult feelings and maintain wellness. The result has been recovery and long-term stability.

Each person designs their own WRAP® in practical day-to-day terms, as a tool that holds the key to getting and staying well. It does not necessarily replace traditional treatments and can be used as a compliment to any other recovery options.

A WRAP® plan helps monitor and relieve uncomfortable and distressing feelings and behaviors and helps the individual identify a best course of action. WRAP® planning also includes crisis planning (preparation of an Advance Directive) that lets others know how to respond when an individual is unable to make decisions, take care of themselves, or keep safe. A WRAP® plan also includes a post crisis plan to guide the individual through the often difficult time of healing from a crisis.

The individual developing the WRAP® chooses who assists and supports them, whether they are family, friends, or health care providers, while they work on their own plan.

The Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers' Association (PMHCA) offers various levels of WRAP® trainings including facilitator trainings. The trainings are held in various locations and a fee is charged.
