Recovery is central to the work and goals of the Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers' Association. We advocate for recovery-oriented services for individuals and for recovery-oriented systems change.
The recovery movement puts into practice the belief that people can and do recover from mental illness. Recovery is believed to be the single most important goal for the mental health service delivery system.
The opportunity for recovery is more likely in a society of acceptance and where the negative attitudes that surround mental illness are eliminated.
Mental health recovery is a journey of healing and transformation, enabling a person with a mental health problem to live a meaningful life in a community of his or her choice while striving to achieve his or her full potential.
