Peer Support within the Criminal Justice System-3-day Sequential Intercept Model Training

Description:

This 18-hour continuing education opportunity is designed to train trainers to teach the curriculum to enhance the capacity of Certified Peer and Recovery Specialists to fulfill a serious gap in supportive services for justice involved individuals. Grounded in the philosophy of peer support services, this training uses a mutual-learning approach and dialogue-driven process to develop understanding of the impact of forensic involvement and focuses on the Sequential Intercept Model as a tool to highlight the unique needs of individuals and discover resources necessary to effectively navigate within and beyond the criminal justice system. Upon completion, the participant will be eligible to teach the three-day curriculum.

The original three-day Peer Support in the Criminal Justice System completion is a pre-requisite for this course and proof of completion must be sent to pmhca@pmhca.org in order for your registration to be considered complete.


Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training participants will gain knowledge and skill to train individuals to:

Use lived experiences as an example of recovery and resiliency

Identify and advocate for the needs of individuals in the criminal justice system

Assist an individual in navigating service systems (mental health, criminal justice,etc.)

Model self-advocacy such that an individual learns howto advocate for self

Support the individual's journey toward achieving personal recovery goals

Resources Needed:

Laptop or Desktop PC with Webcam and Microphonenote that smart phones may not present a large enough screen to engage in the presented material

Zoom or other Virtual Meeting platform will be used

Personal Technology (IT) Support for Computer/Software – Facilitators are not responsible for software/equipment difficulties.
