ADVOCATE

At PMHCA, we focus on raising awareness about mental health, providing support, and promoting change in our communities. Our goal is to foster a space that values mental health, decreases stigma, and offers resources to everyone dealing with mental health issues.

EDUCATE

PMHCA has a selection of trainings that are outstanding. There are trainings for mental health professionals, peer professionals, and anyone who wants to learn more about mental health and recovery.

PROMOTE RECOVERY

The Recovery Movement is the belief that people can and do recover from mental illness. It's recognizing that recovery should be the single most important goal for the Mental Health services system.

WHO IS PMHCA ?

The Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers’ Association (PMHCA) was established in 1986 by dedicated advocates who understand the mental health system. We aim to improve behavioral health services in Pennsylvania through advocacy and community efforts. Our mission includes educating mental health professionals, peers, and the public about important issues such as trauma awareness, reducing stigma around mental health and substance use, and promoting tools for mental wellness.

At PMHCA, we support recovery, showing that people can heal and thrive despite mental illness or substance use disorder. Our stories highlight that individuals can lead fulfilling lives and positively impact their communities. For nearly 40 years, PMHCA has valued lived experiences as a crucial advocacy tool, emphasizing the journey from surviving to thriving.

PMHCA is a membership organization, and we welcome you to join us in our mission to advocate, educate, and promote recovery!

Help us continue to fight for mental health advocacy and make a donation to our organization.

WHat we do

We promote mental health services in Pennsylvania and educate the public to reduce stigma and discrimination against mental illness. We listen to your concerns and represent your voices at the Governor's Task Force for Suicide Prevention, our Community Support Program, and other meetings.

Youth MOVE PA is a statewide youth & young adult advocacy organization dedicated to eliminating stigma surrounding mental health while promoting wellness and recovery for those seeking aid along their journey. Youth MOVE PA has been located at PMHCA since 2017.

Sources of Strength is the only proven model that involves young people as peer leaders and school staff as supportive adults in running campaigns that promote belonging, hope, and connection. Instead of just trying to reduce negative outcomes, SOS aims to create positive experiences.
